Hey, remember that G.I Joe did a short two-part horror story of sorts? Don’t worry, you will! You will.
So a couple of years ago, the comic publisher IDW who currently owns the licences to G.I. Joe, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, Dungeons and Dragons and Star Trek, did a crossover event. A story that came from one universe with vampires, zombies, and robots and spread into the Star Trek, Transformers, G.I Joe and Ghostbusters continuities.
Today, I shall tell the story of the two-part G.I. Joe story. Since I’ve had a thing for G.I. Joe lately.
Kicking off with a small Z list team of G.I. Joes covertly escorting a robotic arm across the sea. They are attacked by Cobra, lead by the Baroness, whose probably killed more Cobra soldiers than G.I. Joe have.
The team of Joes is captured and one is left alive. Psyche Out, an admin combat assessor for the G.I. Joes. He’s taken to an underwater Cobra base by the Baroness and left in the hands of the Interrogator, Cobra’s… interrogator.
Meanwhile at the hidden base, a team of scientists are struggling to create the next generation of BATs. Cobra robotic soldiers. The project is behind and things aren’t going well. The head of the project, Dr Zych, has a personal investment since she’s wheelchair bound and cybernetics could help her walk.
When the Baroness presents her with the mysterious robotic arm, it takes over her and the BATs and the lab animals her team had been experimenting on. This leaves Cobra’s foot soldiers, the Vipers, in trouble and the Baroness, the Interrogator and their prisoner, Psyche Out, to work together to escape and stop the threat from reaching the outside world.
After eventually finding the root of the problem and a fair few Vipers meeting a bloody demise, the team then find a cyborg mind controlled Dr. Zych. When Psyche Out sacrifices himself to kill Zych, the remaining Baroness, Interrogator and Vipers make their escape but not before Baroness kills one as they escape with scuba gear. So yeah, like a horror film, with a load of cannon fodder, but you won’t have to spend the whole time guessing who survives.
