After around 7 months since its original release date, the PlayStation Plus Edition of DriveClub is finally here. This comes after an unexpected launch yesterday which also happened to once again kill a few servers. Now however, Sony is taking it slow and rolling out online play one step at a time.
The PlayStation Plus Edition of DriveClub is supposed to offer players an unlimited taste of the game offering a handful of game modes, cars, and tracks to race on, with the option to then purchase the game at a much cheaper price if they want to. And while Sony are hoping that’ll be the eventual plan, at the moment players will be stuck with a game with no online functionality.
On the PlayStation Blog yesterday, Sony revealed that while the PlayStation Plus game will be launching tomorrow, it’ll be launching in offline mode first while the company slowly rolls out online functionality to players.
We’ve spent a long time preparing for this launch after some difficult and unexpected set-backs. To make absolutely certain that all players have the smoothest and most stable experience possible we are going to be duly cautious about how we release the game this time around.
Starting today, all PlayStation Plus members can download DriveClub’s PlayStation plus edition and start playing in offline mode. Later today, Sony will be rolling out online access to the PS Plus Edition slowly, bringing more and more players online while likely keeping a keen eye on server load.
Eventually, Sony is hoping to have full functionality available in both the core game and the PS Plus Edition as time passes. It’s just once again another waiting game.
