Rovio and LEGO have teamed up for a new line of products blending frustrated avians with classic building blocks, yep… LEGO Angry Birds
I thought the point of LEGO was to build things? I’m a little baffled as to why the two companies have partnered together? What’s the aim here, spend hours building amazing structures only to toss plastic birds at your building until it topples? Actually… that sounds like a brilliant idea.
We love LEGO here at n3, we also have a soft spot for Angry Birds despite its saturation over the mobile market. So this collaboration, though it doesn’t quite make that much sense, sounds pretty good to us. Today Rovio revealed the partnership with the LEGO Group to develop a line of “construction toys” to the market in Spring 2015. LEGO Angry Birds as it’s called will be launching along wide the release of The Angry Birds Movie, the upcoming feature-length film based off of “the most downloaded mobile game ever”.
In a press release Pekka Rantala, Chief Executive Officer of Rovio said:
“The LEGO brand has an unparalleled ability to connect with people through products that spark creativity and imagination. We’re really excited to build experiences together with this amazing best-in-class partner.”
“We are excited to bring Angry Birds to life in LEGO form, given the popularity of the game and its characters with fans of all ages, which will only be amplified by the forthcoming film,” said Jill Wilfert, Vice President, licensing & entertainment at The LEGO Group. “We seek partnership with globally relevant properties that offer a unique and rewarding play experience to our fans, and our designers are having fun developing building sets that leverage the engaging play and deconstruction found in the Angry Birds game.”
Further details are expected to come in due course.
