Following the fairly disappointing numbers for the previous Sonic Boom titles, it comes as a surprise that SEGA has announced another title..
It’s hardly a secret that the release of Sonic Boom for Wii U and 3DS last year was an epic failure. So it baffles me why SEGA insist on launching another? Though to be fair, the 3DS version of Sonic Boom did marginally better than the Wii U version, so at least they’re paying some attention to numbers. So this winter you’ll be able to be disappointed by another Sonic Boom title with Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice.
Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice will apparently build off of the success of the animated series on Cartoon Network, and will serve as the latest chapter in the Sonic Boom franchise. The game is set to include more exploring, more speed, and even more adventure that before with a completely new fire and ice mechanic that’ll help “propel the action.” The game will feature Sonic, of course, and the return of Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and Sticks.
The game is being developed by Sanzaru Games the developers behind Sonic Boom: The Shattered Crystal and will be a single player title with “collaborative gameplay components”. Players will once again be putting a stop to Dr. Eggman’s plans as well as squaring up to a brand-new supervillain, D-Fekt. This time around players will have the choice whether to speed through the game or take their time and explore. A new gameplay mechanic will also be introduced with fire and ice allowing for new abilities, special character moves, and interactions with environments.
The game will also include a mini game called Bot Racing, a mode that’s tied to the single player story but with multiplayer gameplay. It’s being considered an “extension” of Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice that focuses on racing and speed with players having the ability to unlock new Bots and challenge friends on fast courses or tracks.
Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for Nintendo 3DS will be available in stores, Holiday 2015.
