At E3, Nintendo revealed footage of a new title in the Star Fox franchise, Star Fox Zero. The last game in the series came out nearly a decade ago (unless you count the remastered Star Fox 64 3D in 2011), so fans have been waiting a long time to return to the Lylat system and dive into some mercenary adventures. However, concerns were that a new Star Fox game would be given the amiibo treatment, with exclusive content being accessible only if you have the relevant figures.
Well those fears have been allayed; in an interview with Kotaku, Nintendo’s top game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, had this to say:
“In terms of what I’m doing with Star Fox, I’m really not thinking about there being locked content or there being a mode that you won’t be able to play if you don’t have one”
Any use of amiibos with the new Star Fox will only bring in aesthetic features like skins, rather than special abilities or other game-changing elements.
This should be good news for those Nintendo fans who aren’t totally amiibo crazy. I’m sure there’s some out there, right?
