Netflix and Marvel’s Daredevil casts Elektra

Oh great, this just means that Elektra/ Daredevil spin-off movie with Jenifer Garner isn’t cannon anymore. Sugar nuts. That’s a shame.

So TV/comic people, you’ve now got your Punisher, who’ll probably be going around shooting people up. Personally I’d have liked to see another Punisher movie with Liam Neeson as the lead as an older Punisher trapped in a location with a load of disposable B-list villains and some Phase 2 weaponry… But nevermind.

So, who is Elektra? Essentially she was introduced during Frank Millers run on Daredevil during the 80’s as Matt’s college lover. At law school, she was the daughter of a Greek Diplomat who died in an incident with Matt Murdoch’s early adventures in vigilantism.

She is a trained fighter who at one point was killed by Daredevil nemesis Bullseye, then was brought back to life by the Ninja Clan. The hand. She’s been an on off and off hero, an on and off villain, whilst at the same time, being a swim cap wearing enthusiast.

Who will play her in season 2 of Daredevil? Elodie Yung, but who is Elodie Yung?

Well, she’s a young actress (see what I did there?) of French-Cambodian descent. She’s had a serious of roles in French media and English. Her big roles include Parkour (essentially street gymnastics), French action movie District 13 Ultimatum, a film about a dystopian France in the future that has sealed some slums to the rest of the world.

In English, her big role was in action figure franchise sequel G.I Joe: Retaliation as Jinx alongside Kung-Fu lover The R-ZA. Honestly, I was not impressed with her performance in the movie, she had little screen time, but her performance was a little stiff and flat.

She may have the skills to be Elektra, does she have the acting chops? I’m not sure yet. We’ll just have to wait and see.
