Dead Island 2, the game that has already been delayed twice to a 2016 release, has now hit another bump in the road, or worse. Publisher Deep Silver announced in a statement that Dead Island 2 developer YAGER is no longer working on the title.
Speaking in a statement Deep Silver made the following comment:
With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve.
They continued by adding the following:
After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage.
There is no word at the moment as to who the new developer of Dead Island 2 will be or even if the game is still actively in development.
The Dead Island franchise has always had a bit of trouble with it’s development and this continues with the news today. As you might recall Dead Island 2 was first announced back in 2014 with a CG trailer with pre-alpha footage been released later that year at Gamescom. Since then word on Dead Island 2 has been fairly quiet as fans of the series awaited more news. This news however does put, at least for the moment, a seriously damper on the title.
It is hard to tell what will happen with Dead Island 2 now that developer YAGER, the minds behind Spec Ops: The Line, are off the project. Furthermore what does this entail for YAGER themselves? Only time will tell at this point as we await further details on the status of Dead Island. One thing that raises curiosity however is could Dying Light be playing a part in this? Who knows but when we do it should be interesting if nothing else.
