Minecraft Movie Gets an Always Sunny Director

We knew very little about the Minecraft movie other than the fact that it’s happening, but today we know that little bit more, specifically who’ll be directing the flick; Rob McElhenney, probably best known for his involvement in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

McElhenny, as well as starring as Mac on the show, was the lead creator, developer, and executive producer of the show as well as writing and directing several episodes, so you know he has a good handful of experience with this stuff.

Fortunately for McElhenny, this will be his first major feature film and if successful, could put him on a pretty good road to future movies.

In a blog post announcing the news, Mojang wrote:

Hello there! Some of you may have seen this guy hanging around MINECON in London a couple weeks ago. He’s Rob McElhenney, and he’s going to be directing the upcoming Minecraft movie.

Unfortunately it gives us little in the way of what the movie will actually be about. Though, if you’re after a Minecraft story, perhaps Telltale’s upcoming adventure, Minecraft: Story Mode might be your thing?
