For as long as I can remember, Team 17 has had a new Worms title up their sleeves and I’ve been gaming for a good number of decades, and for as long as I can remember, those games just don’t get tiresome. No matter what they’re hilarious and even more crazier than the last. And now there’s Worms WMD.
Who thought it was a good idea to give Worms WMDs?
Usually our invertebrate pals have an arsenal of different handheld weapons from Uzi’s to Bazookas to a little remote which calls in an air strike, though that’s mostly kept off-screen until the shells come flying down. But in Worms WMD, the Worms now have something more, something a little more destructive.
For god sake, the Worms can now drive tanks.
Worms WMD features a brand new look to the franchise with 2D cartoon-inspired worms as well as hand-drawn (likely destructible) landscapes, and for the first time, players will be able to use vehicles, and even better, they can enter buildings.
Worms has always had an appearance of one of those worm farms you had as a kid, no matter how lush the landscape, it’s always felt a little flat as it gets blown to smithereens, and usually the only way to shelter yourself was to either dig a hole, or hide under one of the nooks and crannies in the map itself. So the introduction of buildings adds a whole new tactic to the game.
Worms WMD is to be released on Xbox One and PC in 2016, but if you’re attending Gamescom next month, Team 17 will be showing off Worms WMD at their booth in Hall 10.1 throughout Thursday 6, August – Sunday 9, August.
