Constructor is Coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC After 18 Years

The year was 1997 and the PlayStation One and Nintendo 64 were the most popular home consoles of their time, and on PC games like Dungeon Keeper, Quake 2, and Ultima Online were taking up most of our times. There was however another construction title from System 3 which inspired games like The Sims, that game was Constructor, and it’s about time for a comeback.

18 years ago Constructor landed on PC and sold 5 million copies worldwide, then it launched on the PlayStation One, and is now available on PSN as a PS One Classic. But we don’t want an emulation! What about an HD remake?

In comes System 3, the original developers, with Constructor HD which is currently in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC with a set release window of 2016.

Development head John Twiddy, along with legends of the original team, Phil Thornton, Dan Malone and Joe Walker, will be handling the HD remake so you know that it’ll retain the magic found in the original.

For those a little too young to remember Constructor, the game puts players in the role of a budding property tycoons who most take on their rivals in the creation of a successful city. But there’s one problem. Players must not only build a great city, but also devent against the Undesirables, a motley crew of no-gooders who are hired to cause chaos in your city.

The Undesirables are one of the game’s core gameplay mechanics as players can hire their own goons to cause chaos elsewhere, whether it’s to terrorise a neighbourhood, squatting in properties, destroying gas mains, or involving the criminal underworld in your enterprises. You could essentially become a criminal kingpin.

“Constructor is a game I took great joy in creating, and having the chance to delve into its universe once again has been incredible,” said John Twiddy. “A whole generation adored the original. I, along with the original collaborators, am delighted to be showcasing Constructor’s unique charm to a whole new audience.”

Constructor is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, coming January 29th 2016, with special pre-order limited edition boxes with selected retail partners.
