It’s once again time for investor calls and financial reports and while for the most part, talk of money can be a bit of a bore, often news regarding future releases is revealed and that’s exactly what’s happened in EA’s latest earnings call.
CEO Andrew Wilson has revealed that the company has plans for another Battlefield game in 2016, one which will include a “new Battlefield experience”. A pretty strange description if I must say so. But what could it mean? A VR experience? The return of the light gun? Who knows! Well, EA do of course, but they’re not saying anything.
In the earnings call, CFO Blake J. Jorgensen said that the company plans to have a first person shooter as a core title every year. This year with Star Wars Battlefront, next year with a new Battlefield game.
“I do think what we have said is that our intention is to try over the next couple of years to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles, this year obviously Star Wars Battlefront, next year another Battlefield title.”
Elsewhere in the call Wilson gives a run-down of EA’s future projects too:
“Looking further ahead, we’re preparing more new games for our players. The reaction to a first look at Mass Effect: Andromeda at E3 was incredibly positive. We have a new Battlefield experience coming in Q3 FY 2017 and another new Star Wars project being led by the dynamic creative team of Jade Raymond and Amy Hennig. These are just a few of the new experiences in development across our studios today.”
Of course, with the way that financials work, Q3 FY 2017 is actually Holiday 2016, so the “new Battlefield experience” could indeed be the Battlefield title discussed earlier.
