No sooner had my previous Fazbear-related news post gone live than Scott Cawthon pulled a FNaF2 all over again. Cawthon announced on the official Five Nights at Freddy’s Facebook page that the latest and possibly last entry in the series will be releasing on August 8th, two months earlier than anticipated, so that the title releases on the one-year anniversary of the scarily popular franchise.
Cawthon was quick to state he wanted to keep the original Halloween release date special though, promising a free update to the game with extra content once the spookiest time of year rolls around.
It’s weird to think that this franchise has only been about for less than a year – maybe for me at least it was easy to forget given Scott’s prolific release schedule (FNaF2 came out four months after the first game) but once the fourth entry releases it’ll have been a year since people came across a unique little patch on the indie horror landscape and ended up giving its creator a superb game developer comeback.
Here’s hoping Mr. Cawthon carries on making games once Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza shuts its doors for good – in any case, it’s going to be a summer of scares for sure!
Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 will now be releasing on August 8 for PC.
