The OnePlus One was probably one of the most difficult devices to get due to the company’s invite system but at the time it was necessary due to the company just starting up and wanting to meet demand with supply. When the OnePlus 2 eventually launches however, things will be much smoother.
Because of this many believed OnePlus’ invite system was part of a viral marketing campaign, but in a blog post OnePlus assured us that it wasn’t the case at all.
We had no clue how many people would actually want to buy it and had the challenge of managing our cash flow and inventory risk. In addition, we didn’t agree that pre-orders or having products instantly becoming sold out was a great experience. Our solution to managing risk and user experience was the invite system.
They also noted that this time around it’ll be much easier to get your hands on a OnePlus 2. One of the ways of making this happen is having 30-50x more stock than with the One meaning more devices available initially that’ll all come with invites for their uses to hand out.
The reservation list will also be getting more of a priority than last time:
For those who don’t have time to hang out on forums or social media, we’ll have a quick and painless reservation list. Simply enter your email and we’ll send you an invite as soon as they’re available. We’ll be prioritizing our early forum supporters here.
Finally, in an effort to get friends of friends in on the system, they’ll be making sure shareable invites come a lot quicker than last time.
Simply put, the OnePlus 2 is going to be easier to get. Something I’m sure we’re all happy to hear.
