BOOM! Studios will be the publishers taking on the Rangers and they have experience taking IPs from screens to pages, with Planet of the Apes, Big Trouble In Little China, Escape from New York, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Robocop and 28 Days Later.
Stage one of the comic series will be a set of six exclusive, one-page comics at Comic-Con this month.
BOOM!’s series is going to solely focus on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, so there won’t be anything from the Mighty Morphin’ Alien Rangers, Power Rangers Turbo or any of the others dozens of Power Ranger series.
BOOM! Studios editor-in-chief Matt Gagnon has reportedly said:
We have big, big plans that will build on the core universe of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
We can’t give too much away just yet, but the story we’re kicking off with is vast in scope. Fans of BOOM! know we treat the existing properties we collaborate on with a focus on authenticity and quality. That’s the same sensibility we’re applying here.
Each of the six exclusive comics we’ll see come out of Comic-Con will focus on one Ranger, and will be made up of a pin-up image by Goni Montes, and a one-page comic written by Mairghread Scott and illustrated by Daniel Bayliss on the other side.
The six releases can be read individually or pieced together to form a full narrative.
