For a while now many have been talking about Netflix’ dive into the world of movie production with work coming from Adam Sandler and even a brand new Pee Wee Herman flick in the works. With no real detail on when they’ll be coming to the service, Netflix has now let the cat out of the bag.
Adam Sandler announced last year that he’d partnered with Netflix for a handful of original movies exclusive to the service, the first of which is the movie that’s already gained a lot of controversy, The Ridiculous Six, which is set to star an all-star cast of celebrities. This is the first of a handful Netflix Original film to hit the service and is currently getting the most attention.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has pegged The Ridiculous Six for a December 11 premier. Next up is the return of Pee Wee Herman with Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, which is set to launch in March 2016 with Judd Apatow in tow.
That’s not all however, Beasts of No Nation starring Idris Elba launches on October 16 with a limited theatre release, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend (which was supposed to launch this August) is now hitting IMAX theatres in the first quarter of 2016 along with a simultaneous Netflix release.
So it looks like Netflix has a pretty busy year ahead of itself. I’m interested to see how it pans out.
