According to a new report from DigiTimes, Nintendo is informing retailers ahead of time that the company plans to launch their Codename NX system in 2016. Nintendo is informing supply chain partners to pilot production as soon as this October.
The report cites sources familiar with the matter who has learned that the system will be manufactured by Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) with Pegatron Technology aggressively trying to take some of the orders. Both of which have declined to comment on the matter.
Nintendo first announced Codename NX in March calling the system “a brand new dedicated console” suggesting it won’t be a new 3DS-like handheld or a Wii U-like home system.
The report goes on to reveal that Nintendo is expecting the pilot orders in February or March, 2016 with mass production to begin in May or June, 2016. Sources also revealed that a planned launch may take place in July.
Sources go on to say that Nintendo is looking to ship 20 million of the Codename NX consoles in the first year. They also revealed that component suppliers such as Foxconn Technology, Macronix, PixArt Imaging, Coxon Precise Industrial, Nishoku Technology, Delta Electronics, Lingsen Precision Industries and Jentech, are also expected to land orders from Nintendo for the new console.
Of course, it’s worth noting that as Nintendo, Foxconn, or Pegatron has declined to comment, it’s best to take this information with a pinch of salt.
