I’m sure there are some Pony fans amongst our readers, so this news will no doubt be very welcome!

Hasbro and Lionsgate are reportedly teaming up to develop a big screen animated My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic movie, and star of stage and screen, Kristin Chenoweth, will voice a new character in the production.

The screenplay will be written by Meghan McCarthy, who is a popular writer and producer on the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic animated series. The project will be produced by Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures, and Lionsgate will be looking after the marketing and distribution of the movie.

The story will focus on a “new dark force [that] threatens Ponyville” and the “Mane 6” – your favourite ponies – will band together to overcome the strife and save the day.

I personally have yet to watch the animated series, but I noticed it was listed on Netflix recently so I’ll definitely check it out. I admit I am a little resistant however, as I’m a fan of the original old-school style MLPs rather than the current generation. I do have a couple of the newer ones in my collection though, and Rarity is pretty awesome, so I think I can be convinced.

Well done on nabbing Kristin for the voice casting- this should be great. Also good to hear they’re finally doing a big-screen treatment of the TV show. Should be interesting.
