If you’ve ever said the phrase “I knew them before they were popular” or “I prefer their early demos before they made it big” then you’re already one step on the hipster ladder, but what about getting higher and becoming the ultimate music snob? Well don’t worry, Spotify has your back.

Spotify has today launched a new “Found them First” feature which scans your Spotify streaming history for any artists you heard before they became big. They then let you know that you were a part of making the artist who they are today by letting you know that you’re an “early listener.”

This however only works for artists who have accumulated more than 20 million total streams as well as a growth rate of at least 2000 per cent between January 2013 and June this year.

It’s not exactly clear which artists are on the list, but according to Spotify only “top 1-15% of listeners are considered ‘early listeners’ and will be able to see this ranking.”

If, like me, you’ve been clinging to your MP3 collection, reluctantly deciding which streaming service to spend your £10 a month on, you’ll probably be left out somewhat, but there’s good news, based on that very same listening history, Spotify will create a playlist just for you so you can get a beginning qualification in music snobbery.

You can check it out for yourself here.
