I don’t know much about actor unions, but I know it’s not good to piss them off. The union SAG-AFTRA are considering a strike due to the way their members are being treated by the video game industry. Some more vocal members of the union include Wil Wheaton, Elias Toufexis, Tara Strong, Jennifer Hale, to name a few, who have all taken to social media to state their opinions with a good ol’ unifying #PerformanceMatters.
The union’s demands include stunt pay, due to the job now often requiring motion capture and better back-end bonus rates that reward them if a game they lent their voice to does well.
It’s interesting to note that this all seems to be a point that has risen out of nowhere. It’ll be interesting to see how the situation plays out, and if more game directors like Alex Hutchinson will be vocal on twitter about the unfolding events.
