Remember King of the Hill? A game mode I last remember playing on Delta Force: Land Warrior a good number of years ago. Well it seems to be making a return in Star Wars Battlefront in the form of Drop Zone, a new game mode EA Games has detailed this week that has players battling for Pod Control.
Though the core idea of King of the Hill in multiplayer games has evolved over the years turning into modes like Hardpoint on Call of Duty, the main concept remains. You keep control of a number of points as long as possible in order accumulate the most points, and win.
Drop Zone is a “tight” eight versus eight mode where players must keep an eye on the sky for falling drop pods. Players of both the Rebel Army and the Empire must capture these pods and remain in control in order to succeed.
Much like Hardpoint and classic King of the Hill style games, players will be alerted of the Drop Zone, they must make their way in order to activate a “claim process”. A total of five pods will need to be captured in order to win the game, or the winner is the one who holds the most pods after the 10-minute match.
“If a pod is constantly changing possession with no team able to defend it long enough to claim it, another pod will be sent down to break the stalemate. Then, there would be two pods that the teams have to gain control over,” EA revealed.
Teams who successfully claim pods will be rewarded with a Power Pickup. Once claimed, the pod will start to open and once it does, you’ll be able to acquire the pickup. During this time however, another pod will land and you need to decide whether the Pickup is worth it.
So that’s the latest on Star Wars Battlefront, more information is still set to come in the coming weeks. Star Wars Battlefront lands November 17 on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
