If you find Grand Theft Auto’s online mode, GTA Online, about as fun as pooping in your hand and clapping, then you’ve probably been holding on for a good bunch of Story Mode content coming to the game. Unfortunately, thanks to the success of GTA Online, that might not actually be happening any time soon.
Rockstar had previously teased “substantial additions” to GTA V that’d continue the story of Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, but since then – as far back as December 2013 – nothing has really manifested. Sure a number of items, vehicles, and weapons have found their way into the game, but sadly no “substantial” updates as yet.
The reason why? GTA Online.
Imran Sarwar, Director of Design at Rockstar North has told IGN that the “unexpected” success of GTA Online – with over 8 million players logging in every week – it’s completely shifted the way the team operates.
“We currently have all key members of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto 5 focused on supporting GTA Online in every capacity,” Sarwar said. “The community we’ve been able to foster is massive, growing each day and we have so many ideas that have yet to make it into the game. The evolution of GTA Online on these newer platforms is also an exciting prospect as the power of those systems is going to allow us to achieve even more.”
So that leaves very little room for the team to make any more headway on that promised Story Mode DLC. So once again in typical Rockstar fashion, we’ll probably hear something about it in few months time, maybe, then nothing for another couple of months – if at all.
