We all know that game cinematics can often be much higher-resolution versions of the actual gameplay, and in some cases are live-action sequences which really set apart cinematics from the core gameplay, but the opening cinematic for Halo 5: Guardians isn’t live-action, yet it looks just as good.
Other than actually seeing Nathan Fillion in the flesh, this is about as good as it gets as the opening cinematic for Halo 5 Guardians shows you how it feels to go into battle as a Spartan.
The video, which you can see above, sets the stage as Fireteam Osiris get thrown into combat, but this isn’t some insane action sequence made of explosive clips from all angles, this is a single tracking shot which shows off just how much of a gut punch the team is.
For those who don’t know, the team featured consist of:
- Spartan Jameson Locke – Before he was a Spartan, Locke was an ONI Acquisitions Specialist – an expert in tracking, asset recovery, and elimination of high value targets
- Spartan Olympia Vale – A child prodigy, Vale’s innate skill in languages led to a career as a Navy liaison with the Sangheili post-war
- Spartan Holly Tanaka – After surviving the glassing of her homeworld, Tanaka joined the Army, looking for a chance to save others from the same fate
- Spartan Edward Buck – During his service as an ODST, Buck’s personnel profile suggested “if he were any better he’d be a Spartan”
Halo 5: Guardians is expected to land on Xbox One on October 27.
