Guess what, there’s set to be another modern remake of the classic Christmas tale by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol, with Ice Cube taking the role of Scrooge. It’s called Humbug and after a four-studio bidding war, is in development under Universal Pictures.
Humbug as it’s called, is a modern retelling of the classic story, with Ice Cube starring in the title role, with Tim Story directing the flick. Ice Cube will play a wealthy real estate mogul who, as you might have guessed, is visited by three ghosts and shown the path to redemption.
Story and Cube have teamed up before on Barbershop, the action comedy Ride Along, and the upcoming sequel, Ride Along 2.
The script was originally penned by writers Todd R Jones and Earl Richey Jones over at Relativity but the script was returned after the company filed for bankruptcy. Once again Universal has saved the underdog, like with Straight Outta Compton, another movie that was passed around before Universal took the reigns.
Details on the movies release are yet to be set in stone, but it’s suggested that it may be a 2017 release.
