I’d like to say that I didn’t see that coming, but I totally did. Destiny: The Taken King, which launched last Tuesday, has taken the UK charts by storm and has instantly scored the number one spot, despite the game itself being over a year old.
Destiny: The Taken King has scored Activision their first number once since Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare earlier this year. As for sales, the PlayStation 4 scored the most sales with 57 per cent of the share, Xbox One scored 34 per cent, with Xbox 360 scoring 7, followed by the PlayStation 3 with 2 per cent.
Last week Activision revealed that The Taken King had taken the record for the most concurrent players on the game, even more so since the game launched. It also became the most downloaded title in PlayStation history, though Chart Track don’t count downloads. However, launch sales of ‘The Taken King’ represent 16 per cent of the original’s debut.
In second and third place this week we see Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport 6 and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 respectively, followed by another Konami title with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in fourth place.
Two new titles also hit the top 40 this week with Rugby League Live 3, and NHL 16 who land in ninth and fifteenth place respectively. Oddly, Titanfall re-enters the charts at number twenty five thanks to retailer promotions.
