Defiance, the TV show that’s also a game, has received the axe after three seasons. SyFy’s transmedia show did pretty well, but sadly its run has come to an end. But what does that mean for the video game? Nothing, actually.
The SyFy show and Trion Worlds video game ran hand in hand, with the show launching in 2013 along with the game for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Since its first showing, the game took many cues from the events of the show, so this news has left many players wondering what the future holds for Defiance.
“We’ve had a great time working closely with the team of stellar writers, designers, producers, and actors on the Defiance TV show,” Trion Worlds CEO Scott Hartsman said in a statement to Polygon. Hartsman added that the game will “continue exactly as before.”
Defiance initially launched as a paid title but has since followed many other premium MMOs and has adopted the free-to-play model. There’s also word that the game may get an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 edition if the install base increased. Maybe the cancellation of the show will do just that.
