It looks like Facebook isn’t the only company having an early new-year clean out, as Dropbox has too announced a number of closures to some of its apps, namely: Mailbox and Carousel.
Dropbox announced the news earlier this week that it’d be shutting down its mail app, Mailbox, and photo app, Carousel. The reason for the decision, at least from Dropbox’s blog post, is a little unclear, but it seems that they’ll be rolling out many of the two apps’ features into the main Dropbox app.
“Building new products is about learning as much as it’s about making. It’s also about tough choices,” revealed Dropbox. “Over the past few months, we’ve increased our team’s focus on collaboration and simplifying the way people work together. In light of that, we’ve made the difficult decision to shut down Carousel and Mailbox.”
Unlike Facebook, Dropbox is planning to give users a good few months to find alternatives to the apps, with Mailbox closing on February 26, 2016, and Carousel shutting down on March 31, 2016.
“To our Carousel and Mailbox users, thank you for embracing these products—and we’re sorry,” Dropbox concluded. “It’s not easy to say goodbye to products we all love. But ultimately, we think this increased focus will help us create even better experiences for you in the months and years to come.”
