Independent developer Stoic and publisher, Versus Evil, has today announced the release date for the console editions of The Banner Saga, coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 next January.
The Banner Saga launched on PC to critical acclaim and now it’s coming to current-gen consoles on January 12, 2016. It’ll be once again throwing players into the the world of the Vikings where player choice in both travel, conversation, and combat determines the outcome of their own personal story as well as the survival of an entire civilization.
“Launching the Banner Saga on next gen consoles is a huge step forward for Stoic and the brand” said Steve Escalante, general manager of Versus Evil. “With this latest achievement, the Stoic team is able to work on more platforms and reach more customers with its games and technology. This is not a small thing to consider for such a small team. Looking ahead at what this could mean for Banner Saga 2 gets really exciting.”
The Banner Saga 2, which was announced in late 2014 at The Game Awards with a proposed launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One later this year, though Versus Evil announced that they’re pushing back the release until the first quarter of 2016.
Until then however, you could try your hand at the tabletop version of The Banner Saga with Warbands, a new tabletop game which launched on Kickstarter earlier this year.
