Game of Thrones is Still the Most Pirated TV Show

Now this is a familiar headline, HBO’s hit TV Series, Game of Thrones, has once again been crowned the coveted title of the most torrented TV Series of 2015 – the fourth year in a row the series has been “awarded” the title.

Despite numerous warnings from HBO, it seems millions are still keen to head to their favourite torrent website to download the latest instalment of Game of Thrones, in fact this year saw an estimated 14.4 million downloads via BitTorrent, the show’s series finale saw the most downloads, beating the competition ten fold.

According to Torrent Freak, The Walking Dead and Big Bang Theory complete the top three with an estimated 6.9 and 4.4 million downloads respectively.

They also noticed that higher-quality releases were becoming more popular, but still failed to beat the lower-quality and lower file-size of shows at 480p.

Interestingly, there has always been the argument that while shows become more readily available across the world as well as on-demand and streaming services, piracy of TV Series’ would quickly decline. However, this doesn’t seem the case as Torrent Freak reveals that “download numbers for the most popular shows continues to rise, sometimes exceeding the number of traditional viewers in the US.”

Below is a table which Torrent Freak has comprised showing both the download numbers for a single episode of number of shows compared to their traditional ratings in the US. It’s interesting to say the least.
