It looks like Apple’s Christmas was good for them as they have revealed that it was their biggest Christmas ever with over $1.1 billion spent on the App Store and in-app purchases.
As the holiday seasons are always the main time for new devices to be handed out it makes sense for a lot of records to be broken during that period. So to see that Apple had a record breaking number of sales isn’t that surprising, however they also announced ‘back-to-back weekly records’ for traffic and purchases. Philip Schiller, Apple’s SVP of worldwide marketing made the following comment on the announcement.
The App Store had a holiday season for the record books. We are excited that our customers downloaded and enjoyed so many incredible apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV, spending over $20 billion on the App Store last year alone,
It was also revealed that January 1st was the biggest single day in the App Store’s history with over $144 million spent in that 24 period. The last record you might want to know was set just a week before on Christmas Day. It’s crazy to process those numbers and take all of that in and think about just how successful the App Store is these days.
We’re grateful to all the developers who have created the most innovative and exciting apps in the world for our customers. We can’t wait for what’s to come in 2016.
