Apparently, while busy on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams somehow managed to produce another movie completely behind the scenes, an offspring of its 2008 eye-witness movie, Cloverfield.
It’s called 10 Cloverfield Lane and it’s already got a trailer, which you can see above. The movie has actually been in the wild for some time now, previously known as Valencia and then The Cellar, and stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher, Jr.
The movie, is about a woman waking up from a car accident. The finds herself in the basement of a man who says he saved her life from a horrible chemical-based attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.
Speaking with Collider, Abrams said:
The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.
The use of the term “blood relative” is certainly interesting, considering the concept seems as far away from a huge monster attacking New York City as you can get – unless the monster now has gas, then that’d explain the chemical making the world uninhabitable…
The movie also seems to have lost the eye-witness, found-footage concept of the last movie which is a real shame. But oddly, we won’t have too long to wait until we can check it out as it’s hitting theatres this April in the UK.
10 Cloverfield Lane hits UK theatres on April 8, 2016.
Oh and here’s a new teaser for the movie. Interestingly, it points to something being underground. A giant chemical excreting worm, maybe?
