Bigben Interactive, WRC Promoter, and Kylotonn Games along side ESL, has announced the launch of the eSports WRC Championship, a worldwide tournament where WRC 5 players can compete to become the ultimate WRC champion – in the game, of course.
eSports WRC Championship launches today along side the start of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship which kicks off in Rallye Monte-Carlo, the traditional setting for the launch of the world famous rally championship.
Along side the real racers, players will be able to dive into WRC 5 and put the pedal to the metal as they attempt a stage called La Salle En Beaumont – Corps, a stage composed of ice (35%) and Tarmac (65%). It’ll be the first challenge for players who have been warming their engines up since December 15.
The eSports WRC season is divided into two halves each comprising of 5 qualifying rounds and a semi-final for each half. The semi-finals will be held along side the real-world Rally Italia Sardegna on June 9-12, and Rally RACCCatalunya on October 13 -16, right before the grand finale at Wales Rally GB, where 18 drivers will be invited to fight for the coveted title.
Anyone can enter the eSports WRC Championship and up until the rally weekend practice is unlimited. When the weekend rolls around however, they’ll need to have their wits about them as they only have one opportunity each day to record the best time (from Thursday to Sunday noon).
From here, ESL will invite the best drivers for a Sunday tournament which will be broadcast live on Twitch. At the end of the Sunday tournament, the best three racers on each platform will gain access to the semi-final and to the grand Finale.
