We’ve known that Nintendo and Bandai Namco’s Pokémon-infused fighting game is set to come to the west, and now we have a more solid release date. Pokkén Tournament is set to land on Wii U in Europe on March 18.
Though it had a Spring 2016 release window, it seems Nintendo and The Pokémon Company want to get the game in players’ hands sooner rather than later.
The game blends Tekken-style gameplay with everyone’s favourite Pocket Monsters. So you’ll be able to duke it out in the ring with the likes of Pikachu, Charizard, Garachomp, Lucario, and many more.
In addition, due to the game launching in arcades over in Japan and having its own controller, the Pokkén Tournament controller will also be coming to the west.
2016 is a pretty big year for Pokémon as it’s the 20th anniversary of the release of the original games which spurred both a trading card game and an incredibly long-running TV series and a number of movies.
In addition to the launch of Pokken Tournament on consoles, The Pokémon Company is also re-releasing the original games, Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow onto the Nintendo eShop. There’s also a relaunch of the original base-set of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and much much more in store.
