Last month Platinum Games and Xbox announced that their ambitious walking-with-dragons video game, Scalebound, was delayed into 2017. The reason for the delay has now been touched upon by Xbox senior marketing director, Aaron Greenberg.

It seems the reason for the delay of one of Microsoft’s biggest Xbox One exclusives is due to concerns that it wouldn’t stand out amongst Microsoft Studios’ lineup of upcoming titles, such as Quantum Break, Cuphead, and ReCore, among others, as well as other games not under Microsoft’s wing.

“As we’re looking at the lineup for this year, and where [the team at Platinum Games] are [with Scalebound] — what their aspirations are; that game is super-aspirational, we want to be able to give them enough time and resources to do that,” Greenberg said.

“So strategically, give it time to breathe,” he added. “Let’s make sure we can give it enough space. First and foremost, always make sure the game is great.”

Scalebound is a pretty ambitious title which has players teaming up with a dragon to take on giant battles. It includes a co-operative mode too, where up to four players can band together, along with dragons of their own, to take down an even larger beast.

The game is set to launch on Xbox One in 2017.
