Like many of the rumours had predicted, Apple has announced its iPhone SE. A powerful phone in a small sized package, there are several reasons why it could be a good buy for customers who are on the iPhone 5s or lower.
1. Modern Specs
The iPhone SE has the Apple A9 and M9 chips, which are also on the latest 6s. This means it’s able to compete modern competitors, compared to the A7 chip found on the 5s. A recent AnTuTu benchmark showed the A9 chip is a faster processor than the Exynos 8890 one that is in the new Galaxy S7. These kinds of tests are not the be all and end all for the speed of processors, but it gives a perspective of how powerful this chip is.
There are several benefits of having this faster processor, including the fact that CPU-intensive games will run much smoother. Apple claims the A9 offers 3x faster GPU performance than the 5s and 2x faster CPU.
In addition, the iPhone SE offers a 12MP camera with 4K video like the 6s and also you can do Live Photos.
2. Cheaper Price
Despite bringing these modern specs, the smaller form factor means that it will be at a cheaper price. For the 16GB version, it costs £359 off contract and for the 64GB, it is £439. In comparison, the iPhone 6s costs £539 for the 16GB and £619. So you’re getting a lot of the features of the 6s for a far cheaper price.
3. Screen size
Phone screens have been getting bigger and bigger and initially, Apple was reluctant to increase the screen size of their iPhones. The iPhone 5 has 4-inch screen, which was the first time the size had been increased. The SE seems ideal for people who think the 6 and 6s and its Android competitors are just too big. It gives the best of both worlds if you wanted the smaller screen but the updated specs.
The iPhone SE may not be the most exciting product to those who have a 6 or higher but there is definitely a potential market of people who have older devices. It will be available to pre-order on March 24 and will be released a week later.
