CD Projekt Red have spoken once again about their upcoming title, Cyberpunk 2077, saying that thanks to the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game will be “more ambitious on every single front”.
In an interview with GamesIndustry, CEO Marcin Iwinski once again bigged up Cyberpunk 2077 which has been in development since 2012. He echoed similar comments that the studio have made before about the game’s ambitious nature, but this time adds a few more little details into the mix.
According to Iwinski the game will be “more ambitious on every single front, in the development and on the marketing side.” Which is pretty impressive, even though we’ve seen very little of the game so far.
In the interview, Iwinski also adds that the team at CD Projekt Red want to be regarded in a similar fashion to Rockstar Games whose games are highly regarded, even if they take a while to actually come out.
“For us, it’s never about money,” Iwinski said. “Yes, we deliver results, but we always explain to our investors that we have a long-term perspective. They shouldn’t expect us to annualise, or suddenly start releasing games just because there’s a business opportunity.”
He added that he believe’s that The Witcher 3 has fundamentally proven that, and given the success (the game has sold 20 million copies so far) they believe they have a lot of credit “so we should use that and take the time to make Cyberpunk something really meaningful for the whole industry. It has to reach the next quality bar, and I’m not talking just for us, but for the market,” he added.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch at some point in 2017, though the company also has big plans for another large-scale AAA RPG title in the 2017-2021 window…
