Hearthstone’s latest expansion, Whispers of the Old Gods, has arrived and it’s taking fans by storm. Not only has it introduced a new game mode into the mix which totally mixes up the game’s traditional gameplay, but Blizzard has revealed that there are now 50 million registered players!
This huge milestone is pretty big for Blizzard and works out at around 60,000 new players being added to the game each day since it was first publicly available in January last year. This does of course count registered users not active players, and will count those with multiple accounts in different regions, that being said, it’s still impressive.
With the launch of the latest expansion, the game is now set to be much simpler for new players to get to grips with the game as well as offering a change of pace for veteran players.
“Whispers of the Old Gods adds an exciting new set of creepy, corrupted cards to Hearthstone,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We can’t wait to see how creative players are with the ancient evil of the Old Gods in their hands.”
The new expansion not only comes with a new way to play, but it also completely mixes up cards which players were usually used to. They’ve become “corrupt” and now behave in a completely new way. There’s also a handful of new monstrosities, and with the Old Gods resurfacing, everything we knew about Hearthstone has changed.
Whispers of the Old Gods is available now for Hearthstone on all platforms. Card packs can be purchased individually or through bundles in the in-game shop with both Gold and real world cash.
