We might as well start spending our Christmas on Hoth this year as we unwrap the gift of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which awakens our love of this franchise once again.
Rogue One is the first in what Disney will hope will be lots of spin-offs to the popular Star Wars franchise. With many ideas floating around like prequels following the early days of such characters like Yoda and a Han Solo, a prequel is already in the works.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first in this movie campaign. The project surfaced a few summers ago with the promising Josh Trank, who was fresh off his success from superhero deconstruction flick Chronicle, became involved with the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story project prior to the poorly received Fantastic Four reboot, though his association with the project was very short lived.
Our story follows the team of rebels who steal the plans for the Death Star and kick starts the events of Star Wars: A New Hope. See, this merry band of talented actors take to this task which includes Donnie Yen and Forest Whitaker and a whole lot of Storm Troopers getting blown and beaten up.
With the rumours of Darth Vader making an appearance and a mysterious senior Empire member stalking around. The bad guys look good.
This is a big first for the franchise since it’ll be likely to be the first Star Wars movie to not feature any Jedi Knights. No masters and not one single apprentice. Could this tie into the events of The Force Awakens?
Could this tie into the events of The Force Awakens? It may do since continuity is a huge thing at the moment with The Marvel Universe doing it so right.
Catch it in cinemas in December this year.
