Gearbox Software has announced the first of five free playable characters coming to Battleborn over the next couple of months, with the first landing at the end of this month. But before that, there’s a double XP weekend.
Battleborn’s first free character, Alani, arrives on May 31. She’s a warrior-monk healer, and will launch on all platforms at the end of the month. A teaser image has been released, which you can see above.
A full reveal of Alani is expected to happen nearer the Early Access day, she’s a free character who can be unlocked with 47,500 credits which can be earned in game. For Season Pass and Digital Deluxe players, you’ll have access to Alani a week early via a Hero Key on May 24 at 5PM.
Hero Keys allow players to instantly unlock any one hero in the game with each new hero release, all you need to do is look for the hero you wish to unlock in the Character Screen in the Command Center, and use the key.
Digital Deluxe and Season Pass holders will get one Hero Key which is reusable, provided they meet the following criteria:
“Complete the challenge objective or reach the required Command Rank at any time after unlocking a hero using a Hero Key, then that Hero Key will be returned to you and you can then use that Hero Key to unlock another hero.”
Those who played the open beta on PlayStation 4 will also get a Hero Key to instantly unlock Alani on May 24, or another hero of their choosing. Or they can get the Battleborn DLC Pack Story Operation upon its release.
Finally, this weekend sees the Double XP event kick off from Friday, May 20 at 4PM UK time, and will last until Wednesday May 25 at 4PM UK time.
