Blizzard has today revealed that anyone caught cheating in their upcoming team-based shooter, Overwatch, will be “permanently banned” from the game.
The publisher said that those using hacks, bots, or third-party software in the game will be banned for life. “These assertions aren’t new or groundbreaking for Blizzard,” said community manager Lylirra in a forum post today. “But they’re important and serve as a reminder of our commitment to delivering epic gameplay experiences.”
For those who encounter cheaters, they can either email their concerns to Blizzard directly, or alternatively report the activity in-game. Though the forum post does warn that Overwatch’s Play of the Games will occasionally misrepresent the players actions, which may look like the player is cheating with “more snappy” or “less fluid” movement.
Probably the highlight of the post is the line which simply states that players should remember that “some players are just really good at first-person shooters”, likely in an effort to quell anyone complaining about cheaters when they’re just really, really bad at the game.
