Following Deep Silver parting ways with the original developer of Dead Island 2, Yager, the company revealed that Sumo Digital would be taking the reigns and development would continue, however this morning the Steam Page for the game completely vanished, making us wonder whether Dead Island 2 has been canned completely.
Initially spotted by NeoGAF, the Steam page for the game completely vanished. The page can still be accessed using Google’s cache, but as you’d probably notice, the page is pretty dated with Yager noted as the developer, and the only real screenshots were from the announcement press release.
Fortunately for fans of the series, everything is A-Okay, according to a comment given to PCGamesN:
“Dead Island 2 is in development with Sumo Digital. Once we have new details to share, we will do so.”
Though, the response seems to be fairly scripted and unremarkable not really commenting on the reason why the Steam page has disappeared. Of course, it could simply be that the page is being taken down to make some much needed updates, or as some are speculating, because of a possible re-reveal of the game featuring all of the things Sumo have decided on.
After all, the reason for Deep Silver ditching Yager was because of “respective visions of the project” falling “out of alignment,” so the game could have completely taken a turn.
I guess we’ll soon see.
