Following 20th Century Fox releasing a few new screenshots for Assassin’s Creed, a brand new trailer has been released which finally gives us a look at the video game movie in action. Could this be the first good movie based on a video game franchise?

Starring Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, Assassin’s Creed follows his journey from death row, to a secret compound which contains the Animus, a new revolutionary technology which unlocks his genetic memories, sending him to the Spanish Revolution.

Though there’s really not a lot that we can pull from the trailer, we get to see the Animus in action, as well as a ton of action footage from Lynch’s time as his ancestor, Aguilar.

I’ll be honest, I have my reservations, as I can’t really see the appeal as there’s nothing overly special about the footage that has been shown, it looks like a fairly generic period action movie, but hey, this is the first of many trailers we’re yet to see about the movie.

Check out the trailer above.

Assassin’s Creed launches in theatres on December 21.
