Following its announcement from last year, Activision has now launched the standalone trading card game which brings Skylanders to life in front of your eyes.
Announced ahead of the release of Skylanders: SuperChargers, Skylanders Battlecast offered a way for younger audiences to get into the competitive scene of trading card games such as Hearthstone and Pokémon.
This free-to-play mobile card game has players build their decks from a series of cards featuring the series’ iconic characters, and have them battle it out live on-screen as if they’re battling right in front of your eyes.
In addition to the digital release, Activision will also be releasing physical card packs from retail stores across the UK later this week, this allows them to expand the game from a digital release to something more physical, plus the cards are pretty cool too. Two of these cards were included in the starter pack for SuperChargers, though chances are you’ve lost them by now.
These physical cards can be brought into the game too and come to life in front of your eyes thanks to Augmented Reality. Skylanders Battlecast Battle packs featuring 22 cards will be available, plus the Skylanders Booster pack, which will include a random selection of eight cards. Card packs can also be purchased in-game
The game is now available to download for free in the App Store and Google Play.
“We continue to provide a variety of fun new ways for fans to explore Skylanders and Skylanders Battlecast is an amazing new innovation,” says Josh Taub, senior vice president, Product Management, Activision Publishing. “Our mobile card game offers players not only a collectible experience but also augmented reality, PvP and an exciting single-player campaign.”
