At Microsoft’s media briefing at E3 2016 earlier this week, the company unveiled that the Windows 10 Edition of Minecraft would become cross-compatible with mobile and Xbox One.
Soon Minecraft players will be able to play with their friends on the game regardless which platform they own thanks to a new initiative called Minecraft Realms. This new feature will allow players across Xbox One, Windows 10, iOS, and Android, play Minecraft together. This will also include Gear VR compatibility.
Right now however, the Pocket Edition of the game is lagging behind in terms of the content and features it offers, though add-ons are being made for the game to include new texture packs and adjustable villager AI. However, details as to how the mobile editions will play with the more feature rich console versions remains to be seen.
Minecraft Reams cross-play is available on Windows 10 and mobile right now, with Xbox One compatibility coming next year.
