Compulsion Games’ dystopian smile-filled creep fest, We Happy Few is coming to the Xbox One Game Preview program this July, Microsoft announced during their E3 media briefing earlier this week.
I’ve been looking forward to We Happy Few for some time now, and when I saw its appearance at the Xbox media briefing at E3 on Monday, I knew we were in for some good news, so take your Joy and celebrate the fact that the game will be coming to the Xbox One Game Preview on July 26.
“We Happy Few is set in a dystopian alternate future history of England, post-World War II,” design director David Sears said. “The entire game is based on various characters you play, trying to escape from this insane series of islands in which everyone takes a happiness pill called ‘Joy.’ The pill makes them forget ‘the very terrible thing’ that happened the day before.”
In We Happy Few, players take the role of Downers, citizens of this world who refuse to take their “Joy” and have managed to escape from their safe houses onto the streets, but these Downers aren’t looked upon kindly, and are in constant fear of being chased down by overly happy people with a penchant for bludgeoning people.
Of course, as the game is coming to the Xbox One Game Preview, there are parts of the game that are incomplete, but from what we’ve seen so far, there seems to be enough there to warrant a day-one purchase, right?
