If you, like the rest of us, have been enjoying Carpool Karaoke on YouTube, those days might be numbered as Apple Music has secured a 16-episode series of James Corden’s ride-along sing-along.
The segment, which is part of The Late Late Show with James Corden, has taken the Internet by storm as Corden takes a handful of different celebrities and musicians on a ride around LA as they blast out some tunes and sing along to boot.
Now, it looks like Apple want to get their hands on the viral hit in an effort to bring more subscribers to their music subscription service Apple Music. This new series, which will feature 16 episodes, is set to be a timed exclusive for Apple Music subscribers and will likely be released to the rest of the world a little while after, though details surrounding the exclusive period have yet to be revealed.
The series will stream weekly on Apple Music. A premiere date is yet to be revealed.
The series will be produced by CBS Television Studios and Fulwell 73 and will expand on the segments format. Interestingly, the show will feature a new host behind the wheel as Corden will not be taking part.
“We love music, and Carpool Karaoke celebrates it in a fun and unique way that is a hit with audiences of all ages,” said Eddy Cue, who oversees internet software and services including Apple Music. “It’s a perfect fit for Apple Music — bringing subscribers exclusive access to their favorite artists and celebrities who come along for the ride.”
Without Corden behind the wheel it’s difficult to say whether the series will be a success, half of the reason the segment has become what it is, is in my opinion because of him. Though I guess we’ll have to see.
