Earlier this year there was an explosive set of leaks which supposedly revealed the controller for Nintendo’s upcoming gaming system, Codename NX. It looked pretty darn real, and that’s because it was, but it wasn’t a leak instead it was an elaborate hoax which had us all fooled.
Now, rather than the “leak” falling into obscurity, you can in fact own the fake controller for yourself, if you’ve got $10,000 to blow.
You’re probably wondering why anyone would want to purchase this, and my answer to you is: Wouldn’t you like to own a piece of gaming hoax history?? If you answer is no, then bugger off. If you answer is yes, then hurry, smash your piggy banks and count your pennies as this could be yours.
I say could, because right now it’s on auction starting at $4,000 with a Buy it Now price of $10,000. It’s worth noting though that this actually does nothing, and the one you receive may not even be the one which fooled an entire community – even if it was just for a day or two, as the listing describes: “The unit is very rare as only 5 of these replicas were made in existence.”
There’s also some concerns about the sellers feedback, so if you do decide to commit to purchase the hoax controller, then be sure to brush up on PayPal’s buyer protection.
As for the real console, Nintendo has revealed that the NX will be available in March and will have at least one game: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
