After an exceedingly turbulent development and a divisive multiplayer beta, DOOM ended up being a very nice surprise – a fast-paced, chaotic FPS that managed to improve on what was shown at the game’s very first E3 demo shown last year.
As such, it’s great that Bethesda and id will be continuing to support the game with some big updates, as a new demonstration video posted to Bethesda’s YouTube account showing off the new features in DOOM’s second free update and first multiplayer DLC reveals.
Among the new features being added to the game in its second free update are a bunch of new items for Doom SnapMap such as Jump Pads, an expanded weapon list and new Hell-themed level modules, new Multiplayer modes such as One Flag CTF and “Capture and Hold” as well as the announcement of a Double XP Weekend lasting from the 29th to the 31st of July.
The game’s first Multiplayer DLC, Unto The Evil, was teased at the end of the video too, briefly showing off a new playable demon named The Harvester. According to the video’s description, Unto The Evil will also include “three new multiplayer maps, a brand-new playable demon called The Harvester, a new weapon (the EMG Mark V pistol), the new Kinetic Mine equipment, a bad-ass robotic armor set with new customization options, new hack modules, taunts and more.”
Whilst there’s clearly a great demand for singleplayer content if the comments section of the video is anything to go by, it’s good to see DOOM continuing to get some additional content – especially SnapMap.
DOOM is currently available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The second free update is set to go live today, whilst the Unto the Evil multiplayer DLC will be released on August 5th.
