While many of us are getting lost in our own neighbourhoods looking for invisible monsters with Pokémon Go, The Pokémon Company has this week unveiled a handful of new features coming to Pokémon Sun & Moon as well as confirming a number of new Pokémon coming to the game.
The Pokémon Company has this week confirmed two previously leaked Pokémon, Bewear and Mimikyu, as well as four other creatures, including one that’s literally a Lei. Here’s the full details of each new Poké:
Wimpod is the Turn Tail Pokémon. This Pokémon is a cowardly scavenger which eats or stores anything that’s been dropped in the sea, so it’s highly valued across the Alola region as a cleaner of the sea. Wimpod has the new Ability Wimp Out, which causes this Pokémon to run away or swap out for another Pokémon when its HP drops below half in battle.
Fruit Pokémon Bounsweet gives off a delicious aroma. This aroma has a calming effect on humans, so many people across Alola let them live inside their homes as an air freshener.
Comfey, the Posy Picker Pokémon, picks flowers to carry around. Comfey uses its soothing aroma to help treat people and Pokémon at Pokémon Centers and hospitals.
Mudsdale is the Draft Horse Pokémon, possessing incredible power and endurance. Its legs are coated in protective mud, and its kick can destroy a car in a single blow. Mudsdale can have the Ability Stamina, a new Ability which raises a Pokémon’s Defense by one when it’s hit by an attack.
Bewear is the Strong Arm Pokémon that must never be approached carelessly. With its stout and highly developed arms and legs, Bewear loves to give crushing bear hugs which will split anything in two.
As the Disguise Pokémon, Mimikyu lives its life constantly covered by its cloth. Mimikyu’s Disguise Ability allows it to escape danger from an enemy’s attack one time, changing its appearance afterward.
In addition to the new Pokémon, the developers have also confirmed a few new features coming to the Pokémon Global Link, the website which allows Pokémon players from around the world to connect. The service will be ending its current Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X, and Pokémon Y service and will be updated to support the upcoming games.
This new update will bring Friendly Competitions, a new function that allows players to become hosts to their own competitions and set their own regulations. Two different types of friendly competitions will be available, Online and Live.
As you may have expected, Online competitions bring players together online to compete against each other for the best rating. These competitions can be open to trainers across the globe, or set so only certain trainers can play. Live competitions on the other hand are set up so trainers can come together in person to play together in the same place. The Digital Player ID that contains competition regulations is generated as a QR Code, and by scanning the QR code into a 3DS system, participants can join and battle according to the set regulations.
Finally, another new feature comes in the form of Hyper Training, a new way of making your Pokémon stronger by increasing individual strengths, however this is only limited to Pokémon who are at level 100.
“Hyper Training is done by Mr. Hyper, a new character who can be found somewhere in the Alola region. By using Bottle Caps, a new item obtainable in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, players will be able to carry out Hyper Training on their Pokémon. The Mythical Pokémon Magearna, planned for distribution in Europe later, will be distributed with a Bottle Cap held item,” explained the Pokémon Company in a press release.
