It’s a pretty well-known fact that kids don’t like to wear sunscreen. I can attest to this fact, when arriving on the beach, the last thing I wanted to do was wait even longer to have my parents apply that greasy cream all over my face, back, and arms… Fortunately Nivia has come up with a way to make this a little more hilarious… with a seagull drone that shits sunscreen all over you.
Of course, this isn’t actually a real product, it’s an ad campaign, but a brilliant one at that, because the seagull drone actually had to be made for the campaign.
Check out the video below:
I think the most hilarious part about this campaign was Nivia’s commitment to the idea, as they submitted the ad for a Cannes Lion prize only to be laughed away by the judges, one of which called it “the most stupid thing”, and was asked whether the company had partnered with Monty Python.
“One [campaign] we debated long and hard was the flying seagull from Nivea. Without question, this was one of the pieces that caught our attention. … The big, big problem is kids on beaches don’t have enough sunscreen on,” said Sir John Hegarty, co-founder of Bartle Bogle Hegarty, sarcastically. “They run around and it rubs off. So they developed a [robotic] seagull that flies across the beach and basically shits suntan cream from Nivea. This is, as you can understand, something we had to take very seriously.”
“You should see it,” he continued. “It’s the most stupid thing I think I’ve seen in my whole life. I actually thought the Monty Python team had gotten together and entered it into [Cannes], to see if we would vote for it.”
If we’re being honest though, if I had kids, I’d buy one of these and proceed to torment them throughout the day with the pooping drone.
