With Gamescom just around the corner, Microsoft has revealed that it won’t be holding a press conference at the event, though players can still get hands-on with their latest titles on the show floor.
Rather than holding a press conference at Gamescom this year, the company is opting to mingle win fans by offering a more “intimate” Xbox FanFest experience, the details of which it’ll announce soon.
This marks a pretty big change as last year, Microsoft still had a lot up their sleeves for the event as it was packed with announcements.
In a blog post on the Xbox Wire, marketing executive Aaron Greenberg announced the news, failing to give a reason for the no-show. Instead, he revealed that the company had a “record-setting” E3 in June.
At the event, players will be able to get hands-on with a number of Xbox One titles including:
- Gears of War 4
- Forza Horizon 3
- Halo Wars 2
- Sea of Thieves
- We Happy Few
For those attending, Greenberg also revealed that Microsoft’s Gamescom booth location has moved to Hall 8 in the Koelnmesse hall, near the north entrance.
Elsewhere on the Gamescom front, Sony will be there, but there’s no word on whether they’ll be holding a briefing. Last year the company skipped Gamescom in favour of Paris Games Week. EA Games on the other hand had a briefing last year, but with a little over a month to go, there’s currently no word whether they’ll be hosting one this year.
Sony did not hold a Gamescom briefing last year, instead eyeing Paris Games Week. Electronic Arts did have a briefing at last year’s Gamescom, but it remains to be seen if either of these companies will host events this year.
